The Floods

Dearest Brother,

Do you recall that day? That day that you whisked me away from my jungle of concrete? You said “I want to show you the floods!” You came to pick me up in your new and yet so dirty blue Chevrolet and we drove north and stopped in the middle of nowhere. I remember feeling restless that day. I never liked being too far away from my comfort zone these days. We picked up them two hitchhiker girls on a dirt road. Do you remember? They were on their way to a jazz festival on the shores of the Kineret. We contemplated on joining them. But we decided that the floods await us.

We got to the peek of a steep dirt road, parked the car and made our way to the bottom. We passed a sign that said “No Trespassing" and kept going. You showed me a small reservoir pool  where you and your brothers used to pay in and see who could dive the deepest. We climbed the ruins and kept going further into the valley. We passed a small stream and sat on a rock for a while, making a small fire and serene conversations.

After a small rest we continued to the mountain and climbed it for a while. The sun was starting to set and by the time we found the perfect place it was pitch black. You sat there on that rock with your feet dangling above the valley while my head rested on your lap. You told me about how terrorists and refuges used the top of these mountains to make their way into Israel. I looked to the top and thought I saw someone walking. You told me that if someone was truly there right now, we’d already be shot at.

We stayed there for quite a while in silence looking at the stars when you finally spoke. You said “One day you will wake up and everything will be just fine.”
We are fine, you and I, are we not? It all is fine. I wake up and all is fine, every day now. We had the most perfect adventures you and I. And I love you for that.

We did not see any floods though…

  1. I loved that. You got all the facts wrong, which makes the way you recall it all the more awesome. Funny how comfortable it felt being out of my comfort zone with you around.
